Women of Wakanda

Wakanda Forever

Let’s just start off on how much I loved the women in Marvels Black Panther movie. I mean who was expecting these women to be so iconic and badass. Most of us know Lupita N’Yong’o (Nakia) is one of the best actresses and won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for 12 Years a Slave. Who can ever forget the iconic Angela Bassett (Queen Ramonda) that has played so many captivating roles in her career (What’s Love Got To Do With it 1993, How Stella Got Her Groove Back 1998) to name a few. I’ll be honest here, I had no idea who was Letitia Wright (Shuri) and Danai Gurira (Okoye) were, but their performances were undeniable magnificent.

Wakanda Women Warriors

So here we have four women with a different story to tell; what little girl wouldn’t look up to these women? I’m a grown woman and I can’t get over how the writer’s hit the nail on the head with their roles for the women in this movie.

Okoye

My favorite is Okoye, she exudes control, loyalty, power and grace. She loves hard in what she believes in and that is her Country “Wakanda Forever” she did choose her country over her man W’Kabi (played by Daniel Kaluuya). (Spoiler Alert) The scene when she stands still while the Rhino is running straight towards her, the Rhino comes to a complete halt and licks her face. W’Kabi had no chance winning that fight. The scene was spectacularly thrilling.

Ramonda

Ramonda is T’Challa and Shuri’s mother the loving care taker that will do anything for her children. The iconic Angela Bassett (Queen Ramonda) has played so many captivating roles in her career (What’s Love Got To Do With it 1993, How Stella Got Her Groove Back 1998) to name a few.  Although her role didn’t catch my attention as much as the other three women, I did love her portrayal as the perfect mother.

Shuri

Shuri is sarcastic and a GENIUS. She’s the female version of Tony Stark aka Iron Man. Not to mention she can put up a fight. Her Vibranium lab is insane and her gadgets pretty awesome. Letitia Wright played the perfect little sister and to see a black women with so much intellect just gave me goose-bumps. She has to be on the same playing field as Tony Stark and Bruce Banner if not better. (Spoiler Alert) The scene she is driving the virtual car was Everything!

Nakia

Lastly Nakia, here we have a spy that will chose honor over love. She is fighting for what is right regardless of her feelings for T’Chala. Most of us know Lupita N’Yong’o (Nakia) is one of the best actresses and won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for 12 Years a Slave.

Wakanda Women Forever

How can you not love these women?!? They possess loyalty, love, power, ingenuity and best of all they don’t have supernatural powers which makes them so real that any young girl or women can relate too. I'm so excited to see how they interact within the future of the MCU. Thanks for reading!
