Anime Junky

This Page is dedicated to Anime! Some are Supers, like pretty much all of the characters from Dragon Ball Z, while others are not so super, as far as powers go that is. Like my personal favorite Ash Ketchum from Pokemon! What IS pretty super, is the attention it gets! Crunchyroll claimed to have 71 million visitors last month and usually averages about 50 million every month!

About Anime

The word Anime is a Japanese term for animation which covers all forms of animated media. Anime is sometimes referred to as Japanimations and is characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters and fantastical themes. The culturally abstract approach to the word's meaning has opened up anime production in several other countries.  The earliest commercial Japanese animation dates back to 1917 and  Japanese anime production has continued to increase steadily since that time.

The characteristic anime art style emerged in the 1960s with the works of Osamu Tezuka. Anime is an art form with distinctive production methods and techniques which consists of a ideal story-telling, graphic arts, characterization, cinema, and other forms of imaginative techniques.

The History

Japanese animation began in the early 20th century as Japanese filmmakers experimented with animation techniques. Additionally, France, Germany, the United States and Russia also were Anime pioneers. A claim for the earliest Japanese animation is Katsudō Shashin. In 1917, the first professional and publicly displayed works began to appear.

The oldest surviving film is Kouchi's Namakura Gatana. It's a two-minute clip of a samurai trying to test a new sword only to end in defeat.  An unfortunate accident in 1923 known as Great Kantō earthquake, resulted in widespread destruction to the Japanese commnity and the destruction of Shimokawa's warehouse.  The warehouse tragedy destroyed most of these early works films.
