Superhero Movies of 2019

vudu.com

Happy New Year! 2018 is over, 2019 is upon us! And you know what that means? New superhero movies! I’m going to rank them in what I’m most excited for. If you disagree, awesome! Drop me a comment and let me know your list and why. Click on the director’s name to see other films they have done. Click on the movie posters to see the trailer (if they have one). Now, without further ado:

#10 Hellboy

Release Date: April 12, 2019

Director: Neil Marshall

Cast: David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Daniel Dae Kim

Why #10: No one asked for this. Hellboy had two successful movies in the early 2000s, so there doesn’t seem to be a need for a reboot, perhaps a third installment, but not a reboot. But have you seen the posters? The posters alone are enough to get me excited.

#9 Batman: Hush

Release Date: April 16, 2019

Cast: Steve Blum, Kevin Conroy, Tasia Valenza

Why #9: I’m not a Batman fan. However, there’s been a lot of excitement around this animated adaptation. Plus, Kevin Conroy.

#8 Wonder Woman: Bloodlines

Release Date: October 22, 2019

Why #8: We know nothing about this animated movie besides it’s name, so there’s no reason to put it higher on the list. Bloodlines makes me think it has to do with her mythology roots, which I’d love. I find Greek mythos very interesting, so if we find out that it’s about Wonder Woman’s ties to that, it’ll move down this list a ways!

#7 X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Release Date: June 7, 2019

Director: Simon Kinberg

Cast: Sophie Turner, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence

Why #7: Yet another X-Men movie… Well, at least it’s a good story! I am excited to see how they bring this arc to life, however, I’m worried they may not be able to pull it off.

#6 Spider-Man: Far From Home

Release Date: July 5, 2019

Director: Jon Watts

Cast: Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhaal

Why #6: Mysterio. Mysterio is why I am excited. I like this character, and finally he is coming to life. Also, rumors say Vulture is returning and perhaps a casting for Chameleon… Sinister Six? If there is a Sinister Six announcement, it’ll jump a few spots!

#5 Captain Marvel

Release Date: March 8, 2019

Directors: Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck

Cast: Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law

Why #5: Like Spider-Man, Captain Marvel is bring to me a villain I’d love to see. Finally, the Skrull have come.

#4 Shazam!

Release Date: April 5, 2019

Director: David Sandberg

Cast: Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Grace Fulton

Why #4: Wasn’t excited about this movie, not a fan of Captain Marvel, but then I saw the trailer. I love DC, and this movie is a super-powered DC fan. It looks fun and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

#3 Avengers: Endgame

Release Date: April 26, 2019

Director: Anthony Russo & Joe Russo

Cast: Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr.

Why #3: Nope, not #1. Why? They killed Crossbones way to early in Civil War. I no longer am super invested in the MCU because I look for accurate depictions of comics. I am excited for what this movie may be setting up though. The storylines that can come from this, the characters that may be added, and a possible Professor Hulk.

#2 Reign of Supermen

Release Date: January 13, 2019

Director: Sam Liu

Cast: Cameron Monaghan, Rainn Wilson, Nathan Fillion

Why #2: I almost put this movie at #1. I love this comic line, and after the success of the animated adaptation of the Death of Superman (the preceding story), I am overflowing with excitement.

#1 New Mutants

Release Date: August 2, 2019

Director: Josh Boone

Cast: Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton

Why #1: I have been excited for this movie ever since it was announced. But I’m not excited for the movie in itself. I’m excited for the genre that it is starting. Superhero Horror. So many comic characters would work great in horror movies, and I’m hoping this movie will be a success and open the gates.

  1. Hush need to be much higher. I read the graphic novel and its the best Batman story ever. And I loved Death of Superman but not that excited about Reign of Superman.
